Text books to be distributed to students on school reopening day, says Salem Collector.

Collector R. Brindha Devi has said that arrangements have been made to distribute textbooks to students on the day schools reopen, June 2.

On Thursday, she inspected the arrival of textbooks at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Edayapatti, under the Tharamangalam Panchayat Union. She said there were 1,640 schools in the district, including government, government-aided, and self-financing primary and middle schools. Among these, 67,700 students were studying in Tamil medium and 31,906 in English medium from classes 1 to 5 and text books had been received in the schools.

The Collector further said that in 350 high and higher secondary schools, there were 1,16,954 students in Tamil medium and 61,814 in English medium from classes 6 to 12. For these students, 6,36,357 Tamil medium textbooks and 2,33,134 English medium textbooks had been received. She added that proper arrangements had been made to ensure the distribution of these textbooks to all students on the first day of school reopening.
